These Embest ARM Evaluation Boards can of course be used with any ARM development system.  If you have not already chosen a JTAG interface and compiler then for a very cost effective solution you should consider the Embest JTAG interface, ARM IDE software based on the GCC compiler and Flash Programmer. Cirrus Logic NK9312 Evaluation BoardCirrus Logic NK9312 & NK9315 Evaluation Boards

This is a complete Evaluation Kit for Cirrus Logic EP9312/EP9315 Microcontroller with RS232, USB Host, 10/100M Ethernet, LCD Interfaces, VGA, IIS, DMA, AC97 and capable of supporting Linux, WinCE or any embedded operating system.

The ARM920T on the EP9312/EP9315 functions with a maximum operating clock rate of 200MHz. The proprietary MaverickKey™ unique hardware programmed IDs provide an excellent solution to the growing concern over secure Web content and ecommerce. A high performance 10/100 Mbps Ethernet Media Access Controller (EMAC) is included along with external interfaces to IDE.

Peripheral devices such as an IDE interface, VGA, LCD interface, video encoder, three USB ports on the board, analog audio input, analog audio output, AC97 codec, 10/100 Ethernet, RS-232, and PS-2 keyboard interface provide an effective way to evaluate the EP9312/EP9315 in a complete system environment. The board with EP9315 processor has a PCMCIA interface on the rear which supports one 16-bit PCMCIA PC Card to add memory, mass storage and I/O capabilities to computer systems and thus can be used to further broaden the options of a designer's platform. The LCD and Raster interface of EP9315 is provided by a graphics accelerator which is used in the system to off load graphics operations from the processor.

Included with the development kit is WINCE.net 4.2 BSP, Embedded Linux 2.4.21 source code and a download utility. Source code of WinCE.net 4.2 BSP for this device is also provided. An optional LCD display with touch-screen hardware is available for this development board and can be easily connected to an existing interface.  The Cirrus Logic EP9312 processor consists of 32-bit RISC (ARM920T) CPU core, separate 16KB instruction cache and 16KB data cache, MMU to handle virtual memory management, EIDE, Ethernet, three-port USB2.0 host, three UARTs, IrDA Interface, LCD & touch screen interface, SPI port, AC97 interface, IIS interface, 32-bit SDRAM interface, 32/16/8 SRAM/Flash/ROM interface, Serial EEPROM interface, Real-time clock with software trim, 12-ch DMA, Boot ROM, Dual PLLs control all clock domains, Watchdog timer, 16 enhanced GPIOs include interrupt capability and 31 additional optional GPIOs multiplexed on peripherals. The EP9315 processor has all features of EP9312 and additionally includes a PCMCIA interface.

Intel PXA255DB Evaluation Board

This evaluation board is based on Intel’s XScale PXA255 processor and has interfaces to Mic, Headset, LCD, Keyboard, AC97, IrDA, MMC/SD card, CF Card, USB, Bluetooth and JTAG. It has full bus and peripheral signal expansion and is capable of supporting WinCE 2.4 operating system.

The Intel® PXA255 is a highly integrated, 32-bit RISC processor with the ARM instruction set that can work at up to 400MHz. The Intel PXA255 processor peripheral control module offers 16 channel configurable DMA controller, integrated LCD controller with unique DMA for fast colour screen support, Bluetooth, serial ports including IrDA, I²S, I²C, AC97, three UARTs, SPI and enhanced SSP, USB end point interface, and MMC/SD Card support for expandable memory and I/O functionality.

The Embest XScale PXA255 Evaluation Board is intended as a low cost evaluation platform for Intel XScale PXA255 devices. The board expands all features of the Intel XScale PXA255 processor and supports various additional interfaces listed above. The board has a flexible design using a CPU board and an expansion board. On delivery the unit will operate as a Windows CE product. Linking to a PC allows, via the Ethernet interface, applications to be loaded or new drivers to be developed (required Microsoft Platform Builder).

Intel PXA270 Evaluation Board

The Intel®PXA270 processor is designed to meet the growing demands of a new generation of leading-edge embedded products and is ideal for the low-power environment required by battery-powered devices. It is the first Intel XScale® technology-based processor to include Intel® Wireless MMX™ technology which is able to work up to 520MHz. This technology enables high-performance multimedia applications with an industry proven instruction set. Another innovative feature is the Intel® Quick Capture technology, which provides one of the industry's most flexible and powerful camera interfaces for capturing digital images and video. The Intel Wireless SpeedStep®Power Manager technology provide a leap forward in low power operation, while maintaining the highest levels of performance.

Embest XScale PXA270 Evaluation Board is a second high-end ARM development platform following their PXA255DB board. The board has a flexible design using a CPU board and a base board which supports a range of I/O. The PXA270 CPU board takes all features of Intel the XScale PXA270 processor and the full Bus and peripheral signals are expanded through interfaces on the board including FFUART, BTUART, SD/MMC/SDIO, CF, TTL UART, LCD, USB, Camera & Keyboard. It is also capable of supporting the Embest PXA255 CPU board. This is a good solid reference and evaluation board for a wide range of applications.
