Extended Support for Infineon's C500 and C800 Microcontroller Ranges

Embedded tools specialist Computer Solutions Ltd (COMSOL) announces new microcontroller emulation pods for the PowerEmulator range of real-time emulation tools from iSystems.

The PowerEmulator range of ICE now includes support for the whole family of Infineon's '8051' products, including the latest addition to the C500 range and the C868, the first of the C800 family.

Infineon's variants on the familiar 8051 theme take advantage of the latest silicon technology to support the equivalent of 40 MHz clock speeds and sophisticated I/O such as CAN, USB and DC Motor control.

The C500 family has enhanced the 8051 architecture with additional 16 bit data pointers and a hardware multiply, divide unit. On-chip memory extends to 3K RAM, 64K ROM, some have dual UARTs and up to 68 I/O lines. In addition, many chips have particularly low EMI characteristics.

Chips supported by iSYSTEMS pods include the C501, C504, C505, C508, C509, C513, C515, C517, C540, C541 and the C868 from the C800 family.

Incorporating the latest FPGA techniques, these new pods support equivalent CPU clock rates of up to 40Mhz, with no wait-states. Both 3V and 5V CPU versions are supported in single chip, external RAM/ROM and banked configurations.

iSystems 'Just Swap The Pod' technology, enables designers to support a variety of processors - with the minimum fuss and outlay. A consistent user-interface also enables users to swap between CPU families effortlessly. This allows new designs to be implemented quickly, reducing costs and critical 'time to market'.

Driven by a Win95/98 or NT based PC, iSystem's PowerEmulators offer system developers a powerful integrated development environment - winIDEA. This provides:

Users can modify code and single-step through each line of the source program without leaving the debug window. This is all done using just a mouse to set break points and to control the operation of the target program.

Optional 32K trace module, 16 external inputs and three-way conditional triggering can be used to monitor program execution in real-time, in machine-code or high level C source code.

iSystem's range of PowerEmulators provide real-time, in-circuit-emulation for over 400 different 4, 8, 16 and 32 bit processors.
