New, FREE web resource
speeds 8051 CPU selection
Computer Solutions announces Micro-Search, the definitive, unbiased and free web based selection guide for the 8051 family of microcontrollers.
Micro-Search solves a growing problem for engineers. Chip manufacturers are using the Internet as the primary source of detailed component data. Data books and even CDs are becoming things of the past. But we don't all have ISDN links and the volume of data required to do a comprehensive survey is becoming prohibitive.
With multiple manufacturers supplying over 300 variants, finding the right 8051 device can take a great deal of valuable resources. Micro-Search reduces the time designers spend sorting through numerous unsuitable 8051 specifications. Designers are able to start from one of a number of pre-sorted lists that contains comprehensive details of all the processors that match their requirements. A variety of selection criteria are available, such as, number of I/O bits, timers and UARTS, power consumption, clock speed, RAM/ROM size, etc, enabling users to quickly find the right device even for the most demanding design.
Micro-Search formats the specifications to enable direct comparisons between different manufacturer's devices. Incorporating a database of 300+ variants (and still growing), from every known 8051 manufacturer, Micro-Search provides an unbiased source that enables designers to quickly identify the most suitable chips and then links are provided to detailed specifications on the manufacturers web-site.
In addition to these primary criteria, Micro-Search enables the user to select a device based upon more specific requirements. Details such as, I/O features, idle current consumption, operating temperature range, packaging type or multi-sourcing can all be used to ensure that the best device is quickly identified.
Chris Stephens, Managing Director of Comsol says "With the availability of an ever increasing numbers of 8051 types, it is becoming difficult for designers to find the right device. There is a great deal of data being published but very little that is comparative between manufacturers. I've spoken to engineers who have had to download 20 or 30 large data files only to find that for one reason or another the chip is unsuitable. Micro-Search enables them to consider all the possibilities and then quickly concentrate on a few front runners."
When they have chosen their processor, designers can then link to Comsol's 'Supported Chips Directory', which provides details of the development tools available for that device.
Micro-Search is part of Comsol's 'Embedded Information Zone', a growing reference directory for designers that can be accessed at,

Comsol's Micro-Search provides an invaluable free resource helping designers to select a device from this popular family of microcontrollers.
