C compilers for latest PIC processors

plus free version for PIC16 variants

Computer Solutions is now offering a range of C compilers that support the latest range of PICMicro™ processors from Microchip, along with a totally free version for some PIC16 variants.

The new Hi-Tech PICC compilers are based on the full ANSI C specification, and incorporate an integrated edit/make/link environment which allows compilation, assembly and linking to be carried out using a single command. Also included is a command line driven compiler that allows it to be used with in-circuit emulators such as the popular MPLAB.

Features of the compilers include multiple optimisation levels which take particular note of the PIC architecture; for example, the linker includes overlaying of local variables to minimise RAM usage. A comprehensive library includes source code, 24-bit and 32-bit floating-point support. The compiler also has the ability to carry out mixed C and assembler programming.

New processors supported include the flash memory based 12F629, 12F675 and 16F873A, 16F874A, 16F876A, 16F877A as well as the 16F818, 16F819, 16F72, 12C509AG, 12C509AF, 16LC74B, 16C781 and 16C782. The compilers continue to support all current 12/14/16/17 Series devices.

For first-time users of C compilers and educational establishments wanting to provide a low-cost introduction to embedded C, a free ANSI C compiler known as PICC Lite is available for use with the popular PIC16F627, PIC16C84, 16F84 and 16F84A devices. There are no code-size or optimisation restrictions on its usage.
